The Story
The Red River Fiddlers developed from a group of
students and parents who were interested in learning old-time fiddle music
and subsequently enrolled in a class with artist and director Julianna
Waller. Julianna has been dedicated to passing on the tradition of old-time
fiddling since the age of twelve when she began teaching.
The Red River Fiddlers, based out of Bowling Green, Kentucky, perform feature concerts in addition to private and special civic events. As well as learning and performing authentic old-time fiddle tunes, students develop improvisational skills, musical creativity, fiddling technique, and style. The performers represent the best of today’s youth and several fiddlers enjoy performing at regional fiddle contests. While committed to upholding the group’s level of musical excellence through private lessons and practice, the fiddlers continue to be involved in academic endeavors, sports, school organizations, church, and social activities.
The Mission
The Red River Fiddlers is a performing group of all
ages dedicated to the study, preservation and performance of old-time
fiddling as an American heritage demonstrated in styles such as old-time,
celtic, bluegrass, contest, Western swing and blues. Preservation of the
oral and cultural tradition of old-time fiddling through performance is an
essential part of the mission.
Students and supporting parents who are interested in
learning old-time fiddle music and play an appropriate instrument at the
intermediate level meet once a week for 45 minutes under the direction of
Julianna Waller in her studio.
